Poem ~ All my Littleness Goes Away

Just now there was a conversation about staying present while spending time with the cherished children in your life, and I was asked about my experience.
It reminded me of a poem that I wrote (and have never shared) when my little goddaughter Renata was just about two years old. She was spending days and nights with me. She and our time together were the most precious treasures in my life.
In a meditation group at that hour, a story was shared about a little girl who made friends with an adopted grandpa of sorts. We were asked to share our thoughts on littleness going away and what that sweet idea meant to us right then and there.
After that conversation, I wrote this poem. I hope you love it as much as I do.
All My Littleness Goes Away
There was a story
About a little girl
Who had a dear friend
At Central Park
This friend was an elderly gentleman
Like a grandpa to her
They had great fun
On many visits
All my littleness goes away
When we’re together
Was how this young woman spoke
Of their friendship
So we were asked
What does this mean to you
This story
This idea of
My littleness goes away
I naturally thought of
Renata and me
She is a wise soul
In a child’s body
She knows what’s right for her
She is keeper of
Her mind and body
I respect that
We are soul partners
We came here
To learn
To teach each other things
That only we understand
Perhaps
All of her littleness goes away
When she’s with me
When I’m with her
Things petty and minor
Truly unimportant
Like grownup worries and fears
Things that need to be done
Handled
Finished, or else
Are not what I think about
Things that small
Do not bother me
I only live in the now
For me
That is how
All of my littleness goes away
